Impact of Organic Ingredients on the Frictional Performance of NAO Brake Pad
摘要
Various applications of natural fibers have been highlighted in research, including automotive brake pads, has come to light as a result of international efforts to address environmental challenges and the need to protect the environment. The utility of plant fiber-based material in brake pads is recent and attracts research attention due to the harmful consequences of synthetic friction material on ecology. Even though synthetic fibers have demonstrated stability and durability in brake pad applications, their environmental impact has raised concerns. This underscores the urgency for research into substituting them with eco-friendly alternatives, particularly natural fibers, fillers, and binders, to achieve a balance between performance and environmental sustainability in brake pad formulations. Natural plant fibers used in brake pad composition include palm slag, coconut fibers, jute, banana, kenaf etc. The present paper discusses the significance of natural plant fiber based automotive NAO brake pad over synthetic brake pad. This review is an attempt to shed light on the use of natural ingredients in NAO brake pads to motivate researchers and industries for their advanced application in green brake friction materials.
