Sound Absorption Characteristics of Orthotropic Porous Materials

The paper presents the analysis of the acoustic parameters in terms of the absorption coefficient of the soundboard. The purpose of the study was to compare the acoustic absorption coefficients of wood according to its different anatomical structure in the three orthotropic planes. To determine the acoustic parameters, the impedance tube method was used. The experimental results highlighted the values of the acoustic absorption coefficients in relation to the wood cutting direction, for a frequency spectrum comparable to that of musical instruments. The study is useful in the appropriate valorization of wood either as resonance wood or as absorbent material.
