On the Possible Influence of an Intense Vortex in the Mantle Beneath the Sea of Japan Region on the Formation of Lithospheric Relief and Sea of Japan Water Circulation

摘要

The paper considers the possibility of the formation of the relief of the Sea of Japan region under the influence of the hot intramantle vortex located beneath it. The presence of the intramantle vortex explains the origin of the shape of the Sea of Japan, the structure and features of the relief of the bottom and coast of the Sea of Japan, and the location of volcanoes and hot springs in Japan. On the basis of a model axisymmetric problem of ideal fluid motion at known pressure, the structure of a vortex containing an inner core and an outer part with azimuthal velocity discontinuities at the boundary of the inner core of the vortex and at the boundary of the outer part of the vortex is revealed. The large-scale intramantle vortex under the Sea of Japan region excites smaller mesoscale intramantle vortices. The intramantle vortices supply heat (in the form of hot fluids) to endogenous heat sources from the sea bottom to the water and create anticyclonic vortices in the inner part of the Sea of Japan waters, which is confirmed by drifter data and satellite observations.
