Experimental Study of the Influence of Impermeable Inclusions on the Stress–Strain State of Cement in Sedimentary Rock Under the Influence of Filtration Flow

In the presented work, using the method of physical modeling, the interaction of the filtration flow with porous “cement” containing inclusions of “clastic material” is considered. For this purpose, an installation was created that made it possible to simultaneously visualize the filtration flow and deformations of the porous medium with registration of processes in real time, followed by decomposition of the video sequence into frames. For a medium simulating sandstone cement, elastic parameters were obtained experimentally. A technique for obtaining deformations for a poroelastic skeleton in experiments and converting deformations of a porous medium into stresses is proposed. The work considers several possible options for the geometry of the inclusion location. Based on photographic materials obtained during the study, the stresses created by the filtration flow along its direction and perpendicular to it were calculated. Thus, the stresses arising behind inclusions aligned with the flow have a positive sign, and behind those located across the flow or completely absent, the stresses have a negative value. Experiments have shown that inclusions located along the flow direction are characterized by tensile stresses. In the case of inclusions located perpendicular to the flow direction, compressive stresses arise. The obtained analytical estimates are in good agreement with the experimental results.
