Persistent Organic Pollutants in Waterfowls of the Southern Primorye

The work presents the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the organs of common teal, falcated duck and rhinoceros auklet from the Southern Primorye. Priority toxic chemicals for birds of different ecological groups have been identified. Birds making long migrations to south and southeast Asia are characterized by higher levels of OCP accumulation. Birds migrating to more urbanized areas are more exposed to PCBs. It is necessary to expand monitoring studies using non-invasive technologies to preserve bird populations and obtain more reliable information about current environmental pollution.
