Negotiating the Availability of Accommodations with Governments and University Administrations

  • Manako Yabe

摘要

This chapter investigates the experiences of deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) faculty members in respect to negotiating accommodations with governments and universities. Many of the participating DHH faculty members have experienced both professional/paid and non-professional/unpaid accommodations, while others have had no access to any accommodations whatsoever. The DHH faculty members also shared their experiences interviewing for jobs at their current and previous workplaces. Moreover, they emphasized how the availability of accommodations and the quality of accommodations have an important impact on DHH faculty contributions and student experiences.
