What Is the Nature of Accommodations?

  • Manako Yabe

摘要

This chapter defines the nature of accommodations for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) faculty members at current, former, and alumni universities. The chapter discusses how the accommodations influence the presence of DHH faculty members in mainstream universities in addition to activities such as student–faculty communication, student learning, and professional endeavors. The chapter shows the different roles and processes involved for faculty members and students to request accommodations from universities and/or governments and how the availability, functioning, and effects of accommodations have impacted their academic life experiences as faculty members and as students.
