Translation and Own-Language Use in Teacher Education: The Project

  • Eva Skopečková

摘要

This chapter presents the research project that employs the new didactic model for optimal translation practice in English language teaching (OTP in ELT) introduced in Chap. 4 . Including it in teacher education verifies the proposed model. The research has been divided into two phases—the theoretical and the empirical. The theoretical research has been outlined in the previous chapters. The second phase assesses the new model by employing student teachers’ reflections while introducing the new didactic model in a model seminar (a specialised or a regular methodology course). The empirical research was initiated by a pilot study followed by repeated verification of the new didactic model to complement and improve the model continually. Action research was selected as a flexible research design, enabling the combination of the teacher trainer and researcher roles in the project. Combining qualitative and quantitative methods to ensure data triangulation, the research project employs questionnaires, observation, documents and artefact analysis to collect and analyse data. Finally, the chapter summarises and interprets the data, commenting on the limitations and implications of the research project.
