摘要

This introductory chapter begins by clearly explaining the various program delivery modalities that currently exist in higher education. This chapter provides information and guidance for students in selecting a program of study and choosing a college or university. Through this chapter, students examine their own readiness to be an online learner. Student readiness for online learning \i can impact their ability to persist. As such, this chapter provides students with insight into some of the actions they can take in advance of the course start date to ensure they are ready to engage in the online learning environment. This chapter emphasizes the importance of program alignment with future career \i aspirations to encourage students to select a program of study based on future interests and not simply because of program delivery method. Studies have shown that students are more likely to abandon their degree program if they feel it does not align with their current or future career. The admission \i and enrollment processes are is also discussed to help guide prospective students or admitted students who are undecided on a major of study in creating an action plan to begin their academic journey.
