Research on Rituals and Music

This section describes and analyses the field study, defining the rationale behind the interview, its design, the selection criteria for interviewees, and the results obtained. That very interview script was used to build an online questionnaire to collect information from a broader sample that combines 1-1 interviews and forms. The section will feed further reflections based on this stage of research (Sect. 8.1 ) which, combined with the literature review, will provide a basis for defining a generic ritual framework (Sect. 7.2). Any field of study requires selection of the sample, negotiating with subjects (which includes, for instance, informed consent and acceptance of confidentiality requirements), interaction with interviewees allowing direct observation of their behaviour and interactions, the interview itself, and an analysis of the results, including conclusions (Grimes 2014). It also provides analysis and interpretation of the information provided by the online respondents in a combined, qualitative approach.
