Literatura Review: The Concept of Ritual

Rituals are a universal phenomenon, essential to human coexistence, offering solutions to fundamental problems like the need to feel safe, provide order and explanations, as well as guaranteeing survival (Driver 1998). They constitute a means to simplify and limit the world. The particular forms they take, however, depend on the ideas and points of view about the world held by the groups that perform them, because rituals are cultural constructions. Therefore, researching rituals could be fundamental to understanding a culture.
