Geologic mollifier decorrelation applied to Saarland test areas

The aim of decorrelative gravimetry and/or magnetometry is to convey the basic understanding that zooming-in potential methods using mollifier potential wavelets open up new important fields of application in today’s geoexploration, especially for areas with mining-related cavities or very dense development, such as the Saarland, which make the use of reflection seismic measurements difficult or even impossible. Decorrelative gravimetry as well as magnetometry, each in its own right as well as in combination, also provide an initial assessment of possible prospects in regions where little other, e. g., seismic, data are available. In this chapter, the mollifier decorrelation methods are applied, exemplary for anthropogenically influenced areas, to a test area of the Saarland near the Saarbr¨ucken district of Burbach. We provide an overview of the main results by geomathematically analyzing methodologies for the geologic structure on the surface as well as in depth.
