摘要

The changing perspectives on the role of credit cards, particularly among employed individuals with several credit cards, will influence their purchasing behavior, including the tendency towards compulsive buying. The objective of this study is to examine the factors that contribute to compulsive buying, with a specific focus on the role of materialism in influencing the relationship between credit card usage and impulsive purchase. This study employed PLS-SEM modeling to evaluate the data, utilizing SmartPLS 4.0 software on a sample of 119 participants. The eligibility requirements for participants in this survey research were being employed in the private sector in Jakarta and possessing more than two credit cards. The findings of this study reveal an intriguing aspect, as they fail to substantiate the notion that materialism can enhance the impact of credit card usage and impulsive purchasing on compulsive buying. The optimal outcome, which reinforces prior studies, is the comparison between impulsive buying and compulsive buying, demonstrating a noteworthy impact. The limitations of this research are attributed to the absence of categories of private employees among the participants and the reliance on the participants’ own status to determine their credit card usage. This should be considered for inclusion in future study.
