Indonesian Sharia Tourism Towards a Sustainable Halal Industry

The tourism industry has the potential to enhance job opportunities and foster economic growth, with a rising demand for halal tourism aligning with the increasing number of Muslim tourists annually. The surge in Muslim tourists presents opportunities and challenges for enhancing Indonesia’s sustainable halal tourism sector. The objective of this research is to explore the challenges and opportunities within the halal tourism industry, along with identifying appropriate strategies for the development of Indonesia’s halal tourism sector. Employing qualitative methods, this research adopts descriptive techniques, primarily through documentation studies. The findings reveal that Indonesia’s halal tourism industry holds promising opportunities and potential as an integral part of the sustainable national tourism sector, contributing to increased government revenues. Despite its tourism potential, Indonesian halal tourism faces challenges in areas such as demand and market dynamics, technology and information integration, regulatory compliance, financing, and research and development.
