Smart Cities Vision: A Prototype for Future Cities

Rapid urbanization has caused several issues in cities today. Some of these include overcrowding, pollution, housing problems, an increase in diseases, crime, etc. Smart cities have been proposed as the solution to complex urbanization challenges. It depends heavily on the intelligent use of ICT. A key component of developing a smart city plan is the urban development area prototype. There are different indexes and criteria to evaluate smart cities. Learning from neighborhoods and using literature from other cities in different settings are ways to develop an innovation model. In this research, indicators are compared, and evaluated and a significant set of criteria is produced. Based on relevant information collected from the literature and the new criteria recommended, this research provides insight into developing a prototype for future cities including the indicators and strategies.
