Introduction and Methodological Framework

This chapter lays out the background to the research, outlines the structure of the book, and explains the sequence of the chapters and choice of concepts under analysis. The philosophical framework used for the analyses is also introduced—that of social ontology and relational ethics. The rationale for the selection of specific theories for this two-part complementary methodological approach is outlined, and the framework’s appropriateness for application to the concepts substantiated.
