Mountains and Clouds Motion Similarity and Their Dependencies on the Observer’s Reference

  • Bendaoud Saad

摘要

The verse 88 of Surah An-Naml in the Quran mentions a terrible resemblance between clouds and mountains motions more than 1400 years ago. But this important revelation is not yet understood. This verse tells us that mountains are not fixed as we see them. Depending on the chosen reference frame of coordinates, mountains will appear as if they are immobile or not. In the Terrestrial Reference Frame, the mountains are motionless; but in the Geocentric Reference Frame however, they are not immobile, they are moving. Hence, starting from this verse, our objective is to elucidate, for the first time, the aspects of resemblance between velocities of clouds and these of mountains. To do this, we used some laws of Physics and appropriate reference frames. Calculation shows that mountains, just like clouds, move at speeds in the order of 1, 10 and 100 m/s. The obtained results will be useful, for example, for aviation, shipping, meteorological forecasts and atmosphere studies.
