Selecting a Mentor in a Graduate Program

This chapter reveals the strategies that early career researchers can use to identify mentors who admit students into graduate programs. The strategies facilitate distinguishing mentors from each other on key characteristics (e.g., mentoring style and size of the research team) and determine the “fit” between these characteristics and the early career researcher’s training needs.
