Selecting the Work to Discuss in an Academic Job Talk

  • Andres De Los Reyes

摘要

This chapter presents the rationale for learning how to apply storytelling principles to the creation of an academic job talk. Storytelling helps the speaker establish a flow to their talk and facilitates communicating their research program to audience members of varying backgrounds, in particular those whose areas of expertise differ from that of the speaker. Along these lines, Chap. 11 describes these principles of storytelling in a way that is tailored to the lives of early career researchers, the production of scholarly work within a mentoring relationship, and other circumstances germane to the scholarly work of early career researchers.
