In-Hospital Rapid Responses and Clinical Emergencies

Pediatricians may be unprepared for the increasingly common event of an adult being hospitalized in the pediatric hospital. To address this gap in knowledge, there are systemic hurdles that need to be overcome, but also awareness of individual diseases that are more common in the adult population. We highlight a few of these medical emergencies that require thoughtful planning and recognition ahead of time, including acute ischemic stroke, acute coronary syndromes, and venous thromboembolism.
