Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
摘要
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common cause of chronic inflammatory arthritis in children and many patients have active disease that persists into adulthood. There are differences in the classification and management of JIA in comparison to adult-onset arthritis. Many young adults with JIA continue with active disease and may be taking immunosuppressive medications when they transition to adult care. In addition, they are at risk for comorbid conditions related to bone health, cardiovascular disease, reproductive health, medication toxicity, and complications from their arthritis. Primary care providers play a key role in the care of young adults with JIA. Being knowledgeable about this condition will assist them in anticipating, preventing, and treating the late effects of this pediatric condition. This chapter discusses the areas adult clinicians should consider when caring for young adults with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
