摘要

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become invaluable tools in the development of risk prevention projects. These systems, through the integration of spatial data, the creation of hazard maps and the use of predictive models, simplify the identification of high-risk areas and contribute to the development of proactive strategies to prevent disasters. This article compiles geographic information from Guatemala provided by a Municipality project using LIDAR technology, which involves a laser scanner mounted on a drone to generate a three-dimensional model of the landscape. This technology represents the most detailed and accurate method for the creation of digital elevation models, replacing photogrammetry. The results show that there are some risks in Guatemala City and that it is important to take actions to avoid disasters affecting the study areas. The geographic complexity and susceptibility to various hazards in the region emphasize the importance of using GIS for informed decision making.
