摘要
Copper (Cu) is a transition metal with atomic number 29, involved in several physiological processes, being cofactor for numerous enzymes, such as the “Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase,” “cytochrome-C-oxidase,” “tyrosinase,” “ceruloplasmin,” and other proteins. Moreover, the Cu is essential for respiration, iron transport and metabolism, cell growth, and hemostasis (Niccoli Asabella et al., Biomed Res Int. 2014:786463, 2014; Puig and Thiele, Curr Opin Chem Biol. 6:171–180, 2002). It may also play a role in cancer development and progression, acting as neo-angiogenetic promoter (Reilly and McAuslan, Adv Exp Med Biol 242:221–227, 1988; Finney et al., Clin Exp Pharmacol Physiol 36:88–94, 2009).
