Conclusion

The Conclusion chapter summarizes the book and revisits economic policies pursued since 1994 with the view of recommending aspects of an economic policy that can work for South Africa. In addition, we engage with recent analyses of the South African economy, including reports of various institutions. The focus is on macroeconomic policies and the national development plan. Although the national development plan (viz. Vision 2030) is not an economic policy per se, it cannot be ignored because it has some aspects of economic policy. The same can be said about the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP). The chapter synthesises main issues that the book covers, and we discuss prospects for the South African economy.
