Nanotechnology has brought remarkable advancements to science and technology, ushering in a new era of possibilities. Nanomaterials, with their unique properties and applications, have found their way into various aspects of our lives, from cutting-edge medical treatments to high-performance electronics. The growing presence of nanotechnology in our daily lives underscores the critical importance of nanotoxicology. This field plays a pivotal role in addressing several vital concerns, including the safeguarding of human health for those exposed to nanomaterials through various routes such as inhalation, ingestion, and dermal contact. Furthermore, it takes on the challenges of assessing environmental consequences as nanoparticles (NPs) are released into the ecosystem. Regulatory compliance is also paramount, as governments and regulatory bodies worldwide seek to establish guidelines and standards for the responsible use of nanomaterials. Moreover, nanotoxicology propels innovation and progress by identifying opportunities for developing safer nanomaterials and fostering responsible nanotechnology development. Although nanotoxicology has recently gained prominence, concerns about the safety of nanoparticles have roots tracing back to the late twentieth century. Pioneering events, such as health issues experienced by workers exposed to ultrafine particles, laid the groundwork for the emergence of nanotoxicology as an interdisciplinary discipline. Drawing from diverse fields, including chemistry, biology, toxicology, and materials science, nanotoxicology seeks to answer pressing questions concerning the safety of nanomaterials in an ever-evolving technological landscape. In summary, nanotoxicology is indispensable for comprehensively evaluating and mitigating the potential risks associated with nanomaterials; there is a need for adequate review, understanding, and research on management of nanomaterials.
