Insulin and Ketone Bodies
摘要
This chapter focuses on insulin in terms of regulation of ketone body synthesis. Since excessive insulin spikes completely shut down the synthesis, we first have to hold insulin spikes to allow ketone body concentrations to increase to a small extent. It was 7 million years ago that human beings appeared in the east Africa. Since they had spent much of their time starved, their body had not been designed so that they could have as many carbohydrates as they liked. Thus, insulin has been very sober and unobtrusive. Human beings have hardly experienced the situation that insulin is so frequently used that the effect of insulin becomes weak. Even in the modern ages, diabetes has been regarded as a luxury disease although it is well-known. Diabetes was considered a disease that rich people could get. It is since the half of the twentieth century diabetes has become a spreading disease that affects the health of modern human beings.
