Academic Integrity Leadership at National and International Levels: Overview

  • Wendy Sutherland-Smith

摘要

Academic integrity leadership can be demonstrated by individuals, organizations, governments, or groups such as communities. Some entities are expected to provide global leadership by their very titles and international roles, such as the World Intellectual Property Organisation as part of UNESCO (WIPO, 2023). Global leaders interact, assist, and influence across national boundaries, which involves negotiating cultural, linguistic, and societal norms (Spencer-Oatey, 2020). National leadership, promoted through national quality assurance agencies, national integrity bodies, and legislatures, primarily focuses on measures within a Nation-State, although many have influence outside Nation-State boundaries (QAA, 2023; TEQSA, 2023). One of the multitude of challenges for nations and organizations leading in the area of integrity is managing the expectations of what “leadership” entails and ensuring that the leadership they deliver can be practically implemented or adopted in the domain.
