Academic and Research Integrity as Transdisciplinary Fields of Scholarship and Professional Practice

The purpose of this chapter is to explore the transdisciplinary nature of academic and research integrity research and practice. Five areas of transdisciplinarity are explored: (1) addressing complex problems from diverse and heterogeneous domains; (2) the need for a plurality of methodologies and theories to develop action-oriented solutions; (3) recognition that problems cannot be solved by any one individual or group alone; (4) the need to work together across academic disciplines and stakeholder groups; and (5) the need for cross-fertilization of knowledge and experiences. Threats, opportunities, and responsibilities of scholarship of academic and research are also explored.
