Characterization of Biomaterials

All biomaterials, including metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites used in orthopedics, dentistry, cardiovascular, or other medical applications, and even hydrogels that contain large amounts of water in their structures, are solid. Chemical, physical, thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties of these biomaterials need to be well characterized before entering medical applications, before and after the material is processed [1]. Depending on the data obtained in the analyses, the materials are modified when necessary, and the use of most appropriate materials with the right properties is ensured because the properties of the biomaterials used are of great importance for the health and safety of the patients to whom these products will be applied.
