Scabies
摘要
Scabies is a Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) and is endemic in many resource-poor settings, predominantly in tropical regions and under crowded living conditions. It involves a skin infestation of the mite Sarcoptesscabieivar hominis and transmission occurs via person-to-person contact. Scabies is one of the most common dermatological conditions with a point prevalence of 100–200 million cases globally. The disease causes considerable loss of quality of life, itching and can lead to severe secondary bacterial infections and immune-mediated disease. WHO added scabies to the list of neglected tropical diseases in 2017. Effective topical and oral treatments exist, but re-infestation is common. Recent scientific evidence suggest that scabies is amenable to population-level control, particularly through mass drug administration.
