Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is a common manifestation in individuals with underlying systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). CLE is common among middle-aged adults, but older adults are also significantly affected. Patients presenting with skin lesions characteristic of CLE require specialized care that addresses the manifestations including the physical and emotional impact of this disease. This care is multifaceted in nature, with both topical and systemic treatments available. However, the specific treatment necessary can differ significantly for the many forms of CLE. This chapter discusses the various cutaneous lesions such as acute CLE (ACLE), subacute CLE (SCLE), and chronic CLE (CCLE) forms. Also discussed are the associated epidemiology, pathophysiology, and comorbidities.
