Diabetes Mellitus and Skin Manifestations
摘要
Diabetes mellitus (both type 1 and 2) is a chronic disorder with multiorgan involvement, largely due to metabolic derangements leading to multiorgan disease with micro- and macrovascular complications. Skin involvement is common in diabetes mellitus. Many dermatological manifestations are associated with diabetes mellitus and can assist in diagnosis as well as provide an insight into the presence of diabetes mellitus and its glycemic control. The dermal disease and complications can range from benign to deformity provoking and life-threatening presentations. The dermatological manifestations of diabetes mellitus can pose detrimental effects on patient’s quality of life, morbidity, and mortality. This chapter offers a presentation of the various dermatological manifestations of diabetes mellitus and related management.
