As our population’s life expectancy increases and skin cancer rates continue to rise, the approach to dermatologic surgery in the geriatric population becomes relevant. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of considerations for performing dermatologic surgery procedures in older adults. The discussion includes structural, functional, logistical, and ethical factors, a review of relevant perioperative management, intraoperative emergencies, and points regarding the handling of fragile skin in older people. With careful consideration of each patient’s unique situation and needs, dermatologic surgery can be safely and effectively performed in the geriatric population.
