Scabies affects more than 200–300 million persons annually, especially those populations who are deprived, manifest poor hygiene, or reside in dense low-income settings and in tropical and subtropical regions. Scabies is a concern for healthcare professionals, as it sometimes tends to go unnoticed, causing a spread in settings where the subjects are unable to complain. Despite its existence being known for over 2500 years, it is prevalent in almost every part of the world, with attendant morbidities and disease burden. This indicates that clinicians and other healthcare professionals must still pay attention to its prevention and management. This chapter recapitulates the disease’s significance, etiology, pathophysiology, transmission, clinical presentations, complications, diagnosis, and preventive measures in older adults and focuses on areas of disease prevention.
