Echoing the Debate on Food Security in the West African Region

  • Godwin S. Ichimi

摘要

This chapter engages with the broad issues covering regional and global institutional trading relations as contexts within which the prospects for food security in West Africa are addressed. It also focuses on the arguments surrounding international trade, development, and food security on the one hand and, with the WTO and the ECOWAS in view, relate these on the other hand with the issues of global and regional institutional framings which mediate food policy outcomes. The introduction of the power quotient into the book’s analytical praxis, in the way that neoliberal institutionists have failed to do, facilitates the contemplation of transnational economic processes as well as the regulation of their outcomes within the context of those structural derivatives of power which orchestrate the character and pattern of production globally.
