Client’s Intention and Their Willingness to Participate at the Rehabilitation Center: Focusing on Malaysian Women’s Perspective

Drug abuse issues used to be more common among men. However, in the twentieth century, the involvement of women in drug abuse has become a serious issue as the number has been increasing by the year. Many factors can trigger them, and as the abusers are positively confirmed through urine tests made by the National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) officers, they will be ruled to enter the rehabilitation center and be referred to as “clients.” This paper intends to investigate the relationship between the client’s intention as they enter the rehabilitation center either voluntary or mandatory and the willingness of the client to participate in the treatment program. The intention plays a crucial role in influencing the client’s participation which will lead to achieving their quality of life. An interview session has been conducted to have a better understanding of their life experiences. Based on the data gathered, the clients stated that peer influence, desire to try new things, and working purposes are among the common reason why they associate with drugs. Thus, this study assists the agencies related to understand the probable reason of why some of the clients tend to relapse after being released from the rehabilitation center.
