Cardio-Oncology: Risk Assessment and Management

As the evidence linking aspects of cardiovascular and cancer conditions grows, the imperative to address cardiovascular risk in persons with cancer has also grown. This chapter examines the intersecting risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer including shared native, traditional CVD, lifestyle, and behavioral risk factors. Additionally, shared pathophysiological pathways and cancer treatment are viewed as mechanisms. Approaches to CVD presentation in the cancer population within a cardio-oncology framework are presented and applied to an example case study.
