HSCT at a Glance
摘要
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantationHematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) (HSCT) is the treatment of choice for various pediatric and adult malignant and non-malignant diseases. Many advancements have been achieved to ensure that HSCTs are available and secure for every individual who has a clinical reason for performing it since its discovery as a curative option for either hereditary or inherited hematological illnesses at the beginning of the 1960s. Professor GhavamzadehProfessor Ghavamzadeh and colleagues performed the first HSCT in Iran on March 13, 1991, at the Bone Marrow Transplant Department of Shariati Hospital in Tehran. Autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants were conducted at Shariati Hospital's HORCSCTHematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation Research Center (HORCSCT), using bone marrow, peripheral blood, or umbilical cord blood stem cells as the graft sources. In the present chapter, we'll briefly consider the hematopoietic stem cell transplantationHematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) process and then look into how transplants have been conducted in Iran over time.
