The Role of Mobile Service Stations in the International Road Transport Corridors

International road transport corridors facilitate vital exchange of goods and people between nations. Rapid growth in trade volumes has increased traffic along these corridors, necessitating adequate facilities to service vehicles during transit. Mobile service stations have emerged as an innovative solution, providing on-the-spot assistance through fully equipped mobile garages. This paper examines the critical role of mobile service stations in enabling smooth operations along international road corridors. It elucidates the benefits of mobile servicing in reducing delays, enhancing efficiency, and improving safety for transporters. The paper delves into optimal placement strategies for mobile stations along extensive corridors using a mathematical optimization model. A case study analyzes potential locations in Kazakhstan using key parameters like coverage range, cost, and frequency of breakdowns. The paper concludes by proposing a strategic framework for mobile station deployment that is dynamic, data-driven, and responsive to evolving transportation needs. It underscores mobile service stations’ Immense potential in bolstering the continuity and resilience of international road transport. This study aims to highlight the understated significance of mobile servicing infrastructure and inform policies for integrating such solutions into the strategic development of international transport corridors.
