Differences in Research Performance Between Central Asian and Baltic States

This study aims at comparing Central Asian and Baltic States in quantified indicators of scientific research. It explores the significant differences in research productivity and impact between these two regions. Although both regions share a history of newly independent states, there exists a noticeable gap in absolute and relative measures of research over the past three decades since 1991. The discussion centers on potential measures for modernizing the academic sectors of the respective transitioning economies, considering the perspectives of liberalization, academic integrity, and other contributing factors.
