Stimulation of Cognitive Functions in a School Context: Guidance for Teachers
摘要
The chapter provides the professional with knowledge and tips on how to guide teachers and school staff for cognitive promotion at school. In this way, it brings neuropsychology closer to education and the professionals in this area, contributing to the teaching and learning process. It presents some cognitive components, such as attention, memory, language, and executive functions, and discusses the importance of education professionals understanding them since these skills are essential for academic performance. The chapter also discusses how family and school interactions and experiences influence neurocognitive development in childhood and that appropriate stimulation can promote the development of these skills. Various approaches, such as physical activities, music, meditation, storytelling, and games, can stimulate cognitive skills in the classroom. Thus, it illustrates that knowledge about neurocognition in childhood can help educators plan cognitive stimulation strategies, improve academic performance, and prevent learning difficulties. The intersection between neuroscience and education is a growing area that can contribute to children’s cognitive development through its impact on public policy.
