Intervention in Reading Comprehension Skills
摘要
The chapter focuses on intervention in reading comprehension skills. The authors describe that reading comprehension involves complex cognitive and linguistic processes, such as word recognition, decoding fluency, and inference-making. Many children and adolescents face difficulties in this area, negatively affecting their school performance and occupational future. They highlight the importance of effective interventions to improve reading comprehension, emphasizing inference-making and school instruction. The chapter highlights the role of neuropsychological assessment in identifying specific difficulties and targeting appropriate interventions. In addition, they describe that studies have shown significant improvements in reading performance after interventions. Among them, one can mention interventions in executive functions. In the preventive context, the school plays a crucial role in reducing comprehension difficulties, especially for students of low socioeconomic status. Intervention programs that teach comprehension strategies have been effective, highlighting the importance of explicit teaching. Finally, the authors emphasize that public policies must prioritize reducing inequalities by implementing programs with proven effectiveness.
