Implementation of a Low-Cost and Intelligent Driver Monitoring System for Engine Locking in the Presence of Alcohol Detection or Drowsiness in Drivers
摘要
In this paper we propose a low-cost Driver Monitoring System (DMS) designed to reduce accidents caused by drunkenness and sleepiness and to enhance road safety. The main components of the system include an alcohol detection sensor (MQ-3), an IR sensor, an Arduino Uno, a motor driver, a DC motor, and an LCD. The system assesses the driver’s condition to identify states that may lead to potential accidents and notifies the driver of potential dangers. Additionally, it has the capability to power off the engine if the driver is identified as drunk and/or sleepy. The driver's condition is analyzed using both the alcohol sensor and the IR sensor. As per the proposed system, the engine will automatically shut down, preventing the driver from operating the car upon detection of drunkenness and/or sleepiness.
