In summary, the guidelines presented in this research paper offer critical insight into the design and implementation of an effective ESD system. Adherence to these guidelines will ensure that the ESD system is capable of protecting refinery processes in emergency situations while maintaining a high level of availability and low spurious trip rates. The self-diagnostic and modular design features will further enhance the reliability and efficiency of the ESD system, contributing to a safer and more secure refinery operation. Therefore, this paper serves as a valuable resource for refinery engineers and designers in developing an effective ESD system that adheres to industry standards and regulations.
