Renting a Home in Chelsea, and Highlights from Season 8: 1995–1996

“Renting a Home in Chelsea, and Highlights from Season 8: 1995–1996,” discusses how the Irish Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director Charlotte Moore and Producing Director Ciarán O’Reilly found a more permanent theatrical home, by renting the Stanwick Building in 1994. The chapter discusses the history of the Stanwick Building, and its designer (Frederick Charles Zobel). The chapter explains how, with help from their community, the Irish Rep spent six months renovating a 5,249 square-foot area into two theatres, rehearsal space, and administrative offices. Chapter Four includes theatrical highlights from the Irish Rep’s eighth season, 1995–1996, including Same Old Moon, by Geraldine Aron, which was the Irish Rep’s first play by an Irish female dramatist. Chapter Four also considers their production of O’Casey’s Juno and the Paycock; their production of Shimmer, by John O’Keefe, and a touring production of Pat McCabe’s Frank Pig Says Hello, by the Dublin-based Co-Motion Theatre Company.
