This chapter considers Mathematical Sciences Education (MSE), which aims to foster citizenship in dealing with problems in modern society mathematically and scientifically, making judgments, building a consensus, and acting based on mathematical results. The research question in this chapter is to clarify, both theoretically and practically, how MSE can foster citizenship while focusing on individual values. First, we discuss the differences between traditional mathematics education and MSE and the connection between citizenship education and MSE. Next, we describe the general perspective of task design in terms of MSE. We introduce examples of task design and discuss classroom practices based on these tasks. In this practical example, students go back and forth through the decision-making process in MSE and democratically build a consensus while clarifying the values that form the premise of Mathematical-Scientific options.
