A Review of Goldblatt’s Translation of Mo Yan’s Works

This chapter reviews previous research on Goldblatt’s translation of Chinese literary works, especially his translation of Mo Yan’s Sheng Si Pi Lao. Despite there having been considerable research on Goldblatt’s translation of Chinese literature in general, few studies have focused on the translation of Sheng Si Pi Lao in any detail. Existing research on L&D has dealt mainly with textual translation analysis, without detailed paratextual analysis, so the influence of patronage factors on the translation process and success of the translation of Sheng Si Pi Lao has not been adequately determined, something that the present study aims to rectify.
