Platform Enablers for Digital Transformation: Case For Smart Campus Service Architecture

The digital economy integrates different sides (e.g. information industry, IT companies, users, government) setting various relations to the processes of production, processing, collection, and transmission of information through new information and communication technologies. In recent years, we have seen how phenomena of digital transformation in the economy influence the education sector: universities are forced to change and adapt to the needs of employers, for whom they train professionals. Digital technologies play crucial role in economic activities thus to achieve competitive advantage and gain positions in the emerging digital space of the new global economy. In the context of the digital economy, higher education is changing the development vectors as well becoming ‘gap eliminator’ to ensure the transition of the entire society into the digital age and changing the paradigm for digital competencies. This paper considers the platform-based approach to develop a smart environment for digital universities while discussing some significant issues to set the stage for digital transformation.
