Chinese Moral Psychology in Engineering Ethics Education Assessment

This chapter discusses research on Chinese moral psychology in the context of engineering ethics education. Better understanding how Chinese engineering students and practitioners think about matters of right and wrong, behave, and why, helps to better conceive and teach engineering ethics. This chapter motivates that project, surveys work to date, and proposes directions for future research. For those responsible for the ethics education of Chinese engineering students, its main takeaways are that (1) the perceived natures of and relations between ethics and the law is different among Chinese and Western populations, such that these should be discussed, (2) discussing ethics in relation to engineering—even if done poorly/in an incompetent manner—is better than not discussing it at all, and (3) curricula geared towards global engineering ethics are more successful in achieving ethics-related learning outcomes than those based on traditional/Western paradigms, because of cultural differences. 摘要: 本章讨论工程伦理教育语境下关于中国人的道德心理学研究。更好地理解中国的 工科学生和工程实践人员如何进行关于 对错的思考和行动及背后原因有助于工程伦理教育 的设计和讲授。本章通过综述现有研究和提出未来研究方向来推进该领域 的研究。对负责中国工科学生伦理教育的读者来说，本章的启示包括: (1) 中国人对于伦理和法律本质 和相互关系的感知不同 于西方，因此这些差异值得讨论; (2) 对工程相关的伦理问题进 行讨论—即便是以不够完善的方式—也优于不开展相关讨 论; (3) 因为文化差异， 面向全球工程伦理的课程比起基于传统西方范式的教学能更有效地达成伦理相关的学习成 效。
