Traditional Energy Systems

Currently, in 2023, available desalination and power generation plants are mainly driven by traditional energy systems. However, traditional energy systems utilize fossil fuels in order to generate useful outputs. In order to achieve the ultimate sustainability target, traditional energy systems need to be replaced by renewable integrated energy systems. It is important to understand what is currently available in order to design future energy systems. This chapter concerns about the traditional energy systems, from past to current. Some crucial indicators and parameters regarding the traditional energy systems and their impact are presented with charts and maps in order to raise awareness. Thermodynamic aspects of traditional energy systems are also discussed from energy and exergy points of views.
